I ran out to get Historic Conversations the very same day it came out in September 2011 - and had read it, and listened to (and hung on to!) every single one of Jacqueline Kennedy’s words within that same week. It was surreal to hear her soft voice and listen to her talk about JFK, their life together, her opinions on the people who surrounded them, her role with regard to the political scene, her take on world crises, and more. The precious bundle of book and tapes (CDs) are not meant to be read over & listened to just once; they’re meant to be studied, pored over, and savored again & again :)
So at Barnes & Noble recently, there were two lonesome copies of Historic Conversations left on the JFK/Lincoln shelf. I snatched both of them - one went to our school library, and the other went to my fellow Kennedy fangirl cousin for her birthday :) For myself, I got the newly released The Fourteenth Day, about the aftermath of the Cuban Missile Crisis; Listening In, which was written by historian Ted Widmer in conjunction with the JFK Library, with a forward by Caroline Kennedy - it’s about JFK’s White House recordings; and Killing Kennedy, by Bill O’Reilly & Martin Dugard.
Barnes & Noble’s lil tribute to JFK <3
Thankfully, I have these books in my collection!! :)
[Can you believe it’s been 49 years since his tragic, senseless death? And 49 years to the day since his funeral………:’(]
On the other side of this little stand was one for Abraham Lincoln - JFK’s role model and one of our greatest presidents ever :)
Kennedy (1983), starring Martin Sheen as John F. Kennedy, Blair Brown as Jacqueline Kennedy, and John Shea as Robert F. Kennedy. A two-part TV miniseries biopic on JFK’s presidency from 1961-1963, Kennedy originally aired in November 1983 to mark the 20th anniversary of President Kennedy’s tragic assassination.

“By January 1994, Jackie was diagnosed with lymphoma. Although she knew she had the fast-killing variety, she remained optimistic until May. She made a special trip to the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. When she arrived, unescorted, she ensconced herself at a back table to gaze, unobserved, at the Toni Frissell photographs of her wedding to Jack.”
[Heartbreakingly sweet…..]
OMG, it’ll be their 60th wedding anniversary next year <3 Happy (belated!) 59th anniversary, J&J <3
“He came back from Boston to me in the hospital and he walked in the morning about 8 in my room, and just sobbed and put his arms around me…..”
[JBK on JFK, speaking about baby Patrick’s death]
Baby Patrick succumbed 49 years ago today. :’(
Beautiful, relaxed Jackie - taken three days before the premature, ultimately tragic, August 7th, 1963 birth of Patrick Bouvier Kennedy.
08/04/1963 - exactly 48 years ago, today….. :’)
Now 49 (plus a day)…..where does the time go?? <3
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis
July 28, 1929 - May 19, 1994
